The University of Idaho College Credit

The University of Idaho offers easy pathways into language programs for students proficient in Chinese, French, German, Japanese, or Spanish. Students can earn a Language Minor in under a year or a Language Major in two to three years. Through Avant Proficiency Testing or the Global Seal of Biliteracy, students can receive up to 16 college credit hours for free and easily complete a language major or minor.

If a student has already taken the Avant STAMP 4S proficiency test, they need to provide the university with test scores. This can be done by sending a score report through Credly. If a student hasn't taken the test yet, they will need to pay for it. After taking the test, students can purchase a Credly badge that allows them to send a transcript with their test scores to the university for evaluation.

The benefit for students is that if they test at Intermediate-Mid or higher on the Avant STAMP 4S proficiency test or receive a Global Seal of Biliteracy, they can test out of four levels of language courses and receive 16 credit hours on their transcript. They can then enroll in a 300-level language course at the University of Idaho, which is only three upper-level language courses away from a Minor, which can be completed in less than a year.

For more information on language programs and their requirements, students are advised to visit the School of Global Studies website or email sgs@uidaho.edu. For questions about credits, they can email transferstudents@uidaho.edu.
