Pathway to Language Proficiency

At the heart of the Global Seal of Biliteracy is our goal to encourage lifelong language learning. We want to support language programs, educators, and learners by providing them with resources to “level up their skills,” “leverage their bilingualism,” and “link to future opportunities to use and grow their languages.” Supporting resources to incentivize and recognize language learning success are critical to meeting these goals. The Global Seal of Biliteracy is excited to provide classroom tools to track and recognize progress on the pathway toward language proficiency.

Growing proficiency is an ongoing process and all learners, no matter their level, have language skills that are purposeful and meaningful and should be celebrated. The Global Seal of Biliteracy’s new Pathway Awards is a resource designed to encourage and celebrate language learners who are not yet at a Global Seal certification level but are progressing toward a Seal of Biliteracy. The Pathway Awards program offers two tools: a Passport to visualize language learning progress after taking a four-skills language test and Pathway Award ribbons to recognize a learner who has met a new proficiency threshold on the ACTFL scale in all four skill areas.

Award Ribbons

The Global Seal of Biliteracy's new Pathway Award ribbons are designed to celebrate a language learner who has tested in all four skill domains and meets the designated proficiency award levels in each. The ribbons are available for both the ACTFL and CEFR language proficiency scales.

Global Seal of Biliteracy Language Passport

The Global Seal of Biliteracy Language Passport tool is a FREE celebratory tool designed to provide language learners with a visual way to see their progress on the proficiency pathway. Learners will be able to fill in the Language Passport with their four-skill language test scores and see how close they are to meeting a Global Seal of Biliteracy certification threshold. Couple the Language Passport with "My Language Journey Reflection" aligned with the ACTFL Can-Do Statements.
