The University of Texas Arlington College Credit

The University of Texas Arlington (UTA), offers easy pathways into Modern Languages programs for students proficient in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Korean, Russian, or Spanish. Students can earn a Language Minor in under a year or a Language Major in two to three years. Through Avant Proficiency Testing or the Global Seal of Biliteracy, students can receive up to 14 college credit hours for free when they take a course at UTA at the next level in the language.

If a student has already tested with Avant STAMP 4S or earned a Global Seal of Biliteracy through another test, they will only have to pay a $25 processing fee for each course credit they receive on their transcript. If a student hasn't taken a proficiency test yet, they will also need to pay for the test. AP, IB, and CLEP options are also available.

The benefit for students is that if they test at Intermediate-Mid or higher on the Avant STAMP 4S proficiency test or receive a Global Seal of Biliteracy, they can test out of four levels of language courses and receive 14 credit hours on their transcript when they enroll in a 3000-level language course at UTA. This is only three upper-level language courses away from a Minor, which can be completed in less than a year.

For more information on other Modern Language degree plans and their requirements, students are advised to visit the Department of Modern Language website. For questions or to take the test, they can email proficiency@uta.edu.
